Week 1
October 22 - October 26
I never got a chance to take a "before" picture outside, but Mike (our builder) did and he promised me a copy that I can scan.
After only two days, they have the roof off and they have begun to lay the plywood that will become the floor between the 1st and 2nd story.

Looks great, doesn't it? Unfortunately, we have already have a few "I've-been-doing-this-for-300-years-and-this-has-never-happened" problems.
First, one of the framers tripped and redecorated Emily's ceiling:
When Emily saw it she took it very personally. :-( I'm just glad no one was hurt, and they were going to be working on that room anyway.
But the real fun was the morning of Friday, October 26. Eric is in Atlanta attending a conference and my Mom was staying with the girls and me so she could babysit while I worked October 27. The men stayed until late securing the tarp because the forecast was for rain. And boy, did it rain. And rain. And rain.
Around 1:30 am, Laini came into my room and told me that the bathtub was running. In her room. It took me a few minutes to realize what she was saying. I raced to her room, and sure enough, it was raining. Inside.

This shows just 3 of the 6 buckets arranged to catch the flow.

But the worst was above my bed (caught into a bucket below):

There was luckily no permanent damage to furniture (just some soggy, smelly carpet that needs to be replaced sooner rather than later)
Here's hoping for a less eventful 2nd week!
